When I activate AR mode in Arkio on my iOS device, the real-world camera view appears 90 degree rotated. This makes it difficult to use the AR view correctly.

The AR camera view still seems to work correctly on iPads. Do you happen to have access to an iPad that you could use as a workaround in the meantime?
