Holding Ctrl to zoom instead of orbiting with the right mouse button is a navigation keyboard shortcut that users might be familiar with from 3D tools like Rhinoceros.
In Revit, SketchUp and Archicad, the Ctrl key is used to define a multi-selection; Archicad uses the Ctrl key to start trim, so the key is not universally used to switch to zoom navigation.
