What file types does Arkio support?

Written By Johan Hanegraaf

Arkio supports images, 3D models, and files exported through its design-tool plugins. Arkio Web (3.0) also accepts documents, spreadsheets, and other references in the AI agent chat.

Choose the right workflow: Use Import & export → Import to place supported models and images in your scene. Attach documents and reference images to the AI agent chat to use them in a design request. Attaching a document does not directly import its contents as 3D geometry.

Arkio Web: import into your scene

Format

Use

What to include

GLB (.glb)

3D models with materials and textures. A convenient choice when the model is packaged in one file.

The GLB file, plus any external files it references.

glTF (.gltf)

3D models with materials and textures stored in separate files.

The .gltf file, its .bin buffers, and referenced textures. Keep the folder structure intact.

OBJ (.obj)

3D mesh geometry.

Include the .mtl file and referenced textures to preserve materials.

JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg)

Photos and reference images placed in the scene.

The image file.

PNG (.png)

Raster images, including exported floor plans, diagrams, and images with transparency.

The image file. PNG preserves linework well, but it is not a vector format.

ZIP (.zip)

A package containing supported 3D models and their supporting files.

Include GLB, glTF, or OBJ files and their dependencies. Password-protected and nested ZIPs are not supported.

You can also drag 3D model files or their complete folders into the agent chat to start an import. Use the Import panel to place the resulting model. Direct uploads through the Import panel are limited to 200 MB per file; model complexity and available device memory also affect what can be loaded.

For placement, units, orientation, textures, and larger-model workflows, see Import models into Arkio Web.

Arkio Web: files for the AI agent

Attach these files to the agent chat and explain how you want the agent to use them, such as developing a design from a floor plan or following a room schedule.

Reference type

Accepted formats

Typical use

Images

JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF

Photos, sketches, floor plans, and visual references.

PDF documents

PDF

Drawings, design briefs, and reference documents.

Word documents

DOCX, DOC

Written briefs and project requirements.

Spreadsheets

XLSX, XLS, CSV

Room schedules, area requirements, and other tabular information.

Presentations

PPTX

Presentation material and design references.

Text and structured data

TXT, MD, JSON

Written instructions, Markdown documents, and structured reference data.

Chat attachments are limited to 100 files and 50 MB total per message. Keep each document below 50 MB. Larger files may need to be split into smaller documents or focused extracts.

Scene placement is a separate step. A chat attachment does not automatically become an image or model in your scene. To place a drawing as a reference image, use JPG or PNG in the Import panel. Export the relevant page of a PDF or document to JPG or PNG first.

See Working with the AI agent for reference workflows. Live AI requests require available AI credits.

Models from design applications

Use an Arkio plugin to bring models from the applications below into Arkio. Plugin exports can retain layers, BIM data, and movable elements where supported. In Arkio Web, these professional integrations require Pro or Team; see the current plans.

Native project files such as RVT, 3DM, SKP, PLN, NWD, and NWC are not direct browser imports. Export them using the corresponding Arkio plugin. For the documented Web workflow, install Arkio 2.3.3 for Windows and the updated plugins, then connect Arkio on your PC and Arkio Web to the same Arkio Cloud device group. See Import models into Arkio Web for the complete steps.

Exporting back from Arkio Web is available for Revit, Rhino, and SketchUp through downloaded packages and the corresponding plugins. These exports are not automatically synced back to the design application.

Other formats and exports

For formats not listed above, export a supported model from your source application or use an application supported by an Arkio plugin. See Import other custom 3D models.

Arkio Web also exports GLB, OBJ, and IFC. IFC is an export option, not a direct browser import format. The current IFC export includes Arkio geometry and excludes imported models, props, maps, sketches, and textures. For export instructions and limitations, see Import models into Arkio Web.

Arkio 2.3 installed apps

The installed Arkio 2.3 apps support JPG/PNG images, OBJ and GLB/glTF models, supported import packages in ZIP files, and the desktop plugin workflows. Their CSV program import/export workflow is separate from attaching a spreadsheet as an AI reference in Arkio Web.

The document attachment formats listed above apply to the Arkio Web agent chat. For the installed apps, see Import and Export basics and Access and manage user files for local file locations.
